Green Mandates Drive Granola Power Management Software Adoption

Blacksburg, VA (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

The Obama administration?s executive order No. 13514 now requires federal agencies ?to measure, manage, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions toward agency-defined targets.? State governments and large corporations have followed suit by issuing their own green mandates and looking for ways to reduce energy waste in times where budgets are tight. Granola Enterprise power management software (http://grano.la) is being used by a growing number of these organizations as a cost- and risk-free alternative to expensive power measurement hardware or consulting firms.

Measuring power for IT can be cost-prohibitive to an organization. Meters for measurement run hundreds of dollars per system and require additional software to aggregate power usage. Existing software solutions require installation of a full software stack in-house and often need days to weeks to gain insight to current power use. Using only software, Granola Enterprise starts accurately measuring IT power in minutes and within 24 hours the energy footprint for an organization is displayed in an account accessible by web browser.

Sergi Sales of Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UC) oversees the use of thousands of PCs and servers across a diverse population of students, faculty and staff. When his organization was looking for ways to identify and reduce IT energy waste to support Spanish sustainability initiatives, they turned to Granola Enterprise. ?Granola Enterprise provides our university with a concise energy footprint and cost analysis of all the IT equipment across campus,” according to Sales. He adds that the add-on power management software tools available for purchase give him the flexibility to implement a comprehensive IT sustainability plan that cuts energy waste and costs.

MiserWare CEO Kirk Cameron thinks the reporting benefits of Granola Enterprise are particularly appealing to university and government clients such as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. ?Our software helps customers quickly and accurately audit their energy use across all of their PCs, servers, and laptops,? says Cameron, who co-founded the company spin-out from Virginia Tech. ?This makes it easy to identify energy waste and evaluate power management options.? For more information or to sign-up for a free Granola Enterprise account, visit http://grano.la .

MiserWare, Inc. is a leading provider of Green IT power management software for servers, PCs, and laptops running Windows, Linux and VMware. MiserWare?s Granola Enterprise helps organizations identify and eliminate energy waste in their computers. MiserWare also built the world?s most popular free power management software: Granola Personal. MiserWare?s Granola products have been listed on TIME Magazine?s Top 20 Green Tech Ideas and PC Magazine’s Best Free Software and received a CNET Editor?s Rating of 4.5 stars (out of 5).

Tutorials and Workshops by Rackspace, Push.IO, Eucalyptus, Red Hat and Other Bring Hands-On Cloud Computing Training to CloudFair Attendees

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) April 13, 2012

A full day of 22 tutorials and workshops hosted by the biggest names in cloud computing will pack the first day of CloudFair 2012, the largest cloud computing conference in the Pacific Northwest. The event takes place April 17-19 at the Sheraton Seattle.

The tutorials and workshops run from 8:30 am until 5:30 pm on Tuesday, April 17, and a CloudCamp Seattle event will take place from 5:00 until 8:00 featuring instructors such as Larry Carvalho and Krishnan Subramanian.

These hands-on sessions are designed to give participants direct experience wrestling with critical questions about how to choose those parts of their business that are the best candidates for migration to the cloud, then design the best strategies for getting it done. Instructors will help students evaluate risks, consider questions they might not have considered and avoid mistakes made by other enterprises on their road to the cloud.

Joe Pezzillo of Push.IO will lead a session on architecting back-end services to support mobile applications. Many backend systems today both on the public Internet and enterprise intranets were designed and built for the web era. Because mobile infrastructure and data transport issues are unique, this session will explain how to craft backend systems that meet the requirements of modern mobile applications. The session will cover three key areas necessary for deploying and scaling dynamic data driven mobile applications and ends with a case study in which the presenters detail specific steps taken to run server side systems for a major sports application.

Pezzillo is the co-founder of Push.IO, a leading mobile cloud services provider. His background includes building native iPhone applications for a Fortune 100 financial services company. Joe has been programming Cocoa/Obj-C on Mac OS X since 2001, and was a lead researcher at the Apple Electronic Media Lab for the three years of its existence in the mid-90s. He has participated in a variety of internet and software startups over the past 15 years.

Another session will be led by Paul Weiss, Sr. of Eucalyptus Systems. His session will focus on the fundamentals of cloud computing. In his session, students will learn the fundamentals of cloud computing concepts and the Eucalyptus cloud platform, learn how to install a proof-of-concept cloud and understand how to gain access to the Eucalyptus Community Cloud. Weiss will help students understand the difference between cloud computing and virtualization, as well as the various models of cloud computing. By the end of the day, students will implement a proof of concept Eucalyptus cloud.

Weiss is a cloud engineer with Eucalyptus Systems, working with Enterprise customers worldwide. His experience includes more than three years with VMware, as well as experience as a VMware partner focusing on large Sun environments. Paul has over 16 years of Enterprise IT experience and is certified in many solutions like Solaris, Red Hat and VMware.

?The faculty of our tutorials and workshops collectively have launched hundreds of cloud implementations for organizations just like those our attendees are representing,? said Mark Johnson, president of SH Worldwide, producer of CloudFair 2012. ?Companies who want to take advantage of the best minds in the industry can come to CloudFair and in one day gain practical, hands-on experience from the best of the best.?

United States Bromine Market to Reach 344 Thousand Metric Tons by 2017, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) April 18, 2012

Follow us on LinkedIn ? Bromine and bromine compounds are used in different areas such as automobiles, agriculture, healthcare, photography, pesticides, biocides, anti-inflammation, water purification, and medicines among others. Bromine makes a good sanitizing agent and a superior bleaching agent. The US roughly accounts for about 33% of the world bromine production and continues its dominance as a major producer. Arkansas and Michigan are the two sources for bromine production in the United States. However, over the years, the US leadership position has diminished as other global countries such as China, Israel, Japan and Jordan among others fortify their individual positions as leading producers of elemental bromine. Flame Retardants is the single biggest end-user of bromine, although its use is gradually registering a slowdown over the years, primarily on account of environmental and health-related concerns. Bromine chemical producers in the US in an agreement with the US EPA (environmental protection agency) have decided to voluntarily regulate and slowly phase-out production of the production, imports and consumption of decabromodiphenyl ether (Deca-BDE), a widely used flame retardant type by 2012-end. The phase-out relates to all consumer products by December 2012 and all other products by 2013-end.

The US bromine market witnessed a marginal drop in demand during 2008 and 2009 impacted by global economic recession. Lowered demand for the mineral in various end-use segments including flame retardants and drilling fluids among others resulted in reduced market revenues. The US exports as well as imports declined during the year 2009. Poor demand because of turmoil in the economy resulted in the outcome. However, with the effects of recession fading, the market exhibited signs of recovery in 2010 and is poised to grow further in the coming years driven by increased consumption.

Worldwide, China is slowly gaining ground as an important producer of bromine, despite the fact that environmental regulations for protection of farmlands have led to decrease in production capacity and plant closures, resulting in overall tight supply conditions in the country. In the year 2011, China at 155,000 tons ranked as the world?s third largest producer of bromine after the United States and Israel. Jordan and Japan are the other major producers of Bromine in the world. It is estimated that bromine demand will soon outpace actual supply/output in China.

With the virtual ban of methyl bromide, there is a growing disconcert for a replacement fumigant that can be as effective as the former. While some are turning towards compost as a substitute, some are still engaged in research to find potential alternatives. Though compost showed a saving of over $ 200 per acre with no compromise on yield or quality, the search for alternatives is still on. The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is mulling on Telone, a carcinogen that falls under category I toxic chemical, manufactured by Dow Elanco. The biodegradable product developed from natural chemicals also adheres to the standards of the Clean Air Act, the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996, and the EPA Office of Children Safety Protection.

Key players profiled in the report include Albemarle Corporation, Arab Potash Company, Chemtura Corporation, Chemada Fine Chemicals Company Ltd., Hindustan Salts Limited, Israel Chemicals Limited, Dead Sea Bromine Company Ltd., Solaris ChemTech Ltd., Tata Chemicals Ltd., The Dow Chemical Company, Tosoh Corporation, among others.

The research report titled ?Bromine: A US Market Report? announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc., provides a comprehensive review of the US and select regional bromine markets, current market trends, competitive scenario, product overview, recent industry activity, and profiles of major/niche global as well as regional market participants. The report provides annual consumption estimates and projections for bromine market for the years 2009 through 2017 for the US market. Key end-use segments analyzed include Flame Retardants, Brominated Pesticides, Drilling Fluids, Water Treatment Chemicals and Others. The study also provides historic data for an insight into market evolution over the period 2003 through 2008.

iXsystems Announces Professional FreeBSD and PC-BSD Support Offering

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) July 8, 2008

iXsystems announced today the launch of its Professional Services Division for FreeBSD and PC-BSD. The new Professional Services Division will provide Professional Enterprise Grade support, consulting, and development for FreeBSD and PC-BSD.

Service offerings include desktop support such as installation and basic customization of the operating system. Software application support is also offered and includes assistance configuring and installing third-party applications, either through the FreeBSD ports and packages system or via Push-Button Installers (PBIs), graphical utilities to remove and install PC-BSD software in a simple to use, self-contained format.

Also included are more customized support offerings across a wide range of server-related issues such as kernel tuning and system optimization, device driver creation, kernel, userland, and embedded systems development, and a host of other services. iXsystems offers 8×5 PC-BSD and FreeBSD OS support and has a devoted Service Support Office and US-based Call Center to assist with technical support issues.

“We feel that offering Enterprise Grade Support for FreeBSD and PC-BSD will remove one of the main barriers that the platforms face to expanding adoption. While there may be some companies that are capable of supporting them, there are none, to my knowledge, currently offering services and support on an Enterprise level specific to FreeBSD and PC-BSD,” says Matthew Olander, CTO of iXsystems. “This is a barrier we are happy to remove.”

iXsystems partners with some of the most accomplished developers in the FreeBSD Community to offer custom development and advanced-level FreeBSD consulting solutions. Furthermore, when the iXsystems Support Team encounters a confirmed bug, they can escalate the bug to the FreeBSD engineering team and work with The FreeBSD Project to help create and submit patches to the FreeBSD community for possible inclusion in the latest release.
